The Viking Compass is a runic Norse symbol also known as the Vegvísir. It is one of the Viking’s most important and famous symbols, consisting of eight spikes spreading out. It is believed that these represent the cardinal (North, South, West, East) and intercardinal directions (Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast). It has been written that “If this sign is carried, one will never lose one’s way in storms or bad weather, even when the way is not known.”
The Viking Compass is not only a symbol of guidance and protection, it also represents staying on course in our spiritual voyage, and in finding our way through all the ups, downs, twists, and turns our lives can take.
The antiqued pewter pendant’s design is on one side, with solid brushed silver on the back. The 41mm length includes its loop. The pendant hangs on a high quality, thick black braided leather cord with a sterling silver clasp.
